Anhui The province of Anhui in the People's Republic of China is located in eastern China. The capital of this district is Hefei. It is located just across from the basins of the Huaihe and Yangtze River. The province has many surroundings including Henan to the northwest, Shandong to the north, Jiangxi to the south, Zhejiang to the southeast, and Hubei to the southwest. "Anhui" is a name acquired from Huizhou and Anqing, which are two city cities in Anhui. Historically in Anhui there was a Mount Wan, a Wan river, and a State of Wan, which explains where the province's abbreviation "Wan" was derived from. There is much diversity in the topography in Anhui. Around the northern part of the province the regions provide a very flat surface that is highly populated. The southern regions are far more unequal when it comes to the land surface. Many sets of mountains pass through here including the Dabie Mountains and the Huangshan Mountains in the southeast. The Huangshan holds the highest peak "Lotus Peak" at 1873 meters. With these mountains there are also many rivers such as Huai He located in the north while yangtze is located in the south. Anhui does not offer a wonderful climate especially if you are wanting sunshine and blue skies frequently. Winter average temperatures are around 2°C while Summer has an average of just 28°C. You can expect daily rain and even flooding in the months of June and July. The economy in Anhui is quite diverse as well. Sweet potatoes and wheat are grown just north of the Huai He river while a large amount of rice is grown just south of this river. Anhui also provides many natural resources which brings in most of their economic successes. Ma`anshan provides iron materials, Huainan has large quantities of coal, and Tongling has copper mined. The most popular company in Anhui would be the automobile company based out of Wuhu, Chery. Anhui does not have much tourism each year due to the poor weather and highly populated areas. However, the ancient villages in the southern parts of Anhui such as Hongcun and Xidi are visited quite often to learn about how the past civilians survived in the area. With the large amount of mountains, many of them are visited such as Mount Huangshan, Qiyun, and Jiuhua. These mountains provide many hot springs and great overlooks of the flatlands.
